Dementia and older adults

ภาวะสมองเสื่อมกับผู้สูงอายุ

If you suspect your parents may have dementia, what should you do?

When your parents begin to show changes in behavior, mood, memory, or reasoning compared to before, or display behaviors they have never had before—for example, being irritable and moody all the time, or scolding people around them with harsh words they never used before, etc.

If you want an answer as to whether your parents have dementia, you should take them for a dementia evaluation with an internist (neurology/brain specialty or geriatric medicine) or a psychiatrist. The doctor will have them take a dementia screening test and may also order a brain MRI.

It is recommended to take them for an evaluation early, because once the doctor makes a diagnosis, treatment becomes easier and may also help slow the progression of symptoms.
